Bandung was initially established as early as 1641 by Sultan Agung of Mataram. The location of Bandung in nowadays was further to the South. The town in its immediate area was established by the Dutch in 1811. The Groote Postweg was constructed to connect Batavia to the West of Java, and the commander in chief at the time demanded a town to be built before ‘the next time I return.’ This place to grow into the city of Bandung.
