There are many different ways you can upcycle and reuse your unwanted items. Although there are plenty of places where you can take items, such as charity shops or shoe banks, it can be far more fun to upcycle the items and have them fulfilling a use within your own home.

There are those that have a rare and strange talent for looking at unwanted items and being able to see what they could become to make them desirable and functional again. Some have even made a business out of it. It is all about making that all-important connection.

    Glasses

For instance, many people have glasses in their homes that they no longer use and are just clogging up cupboard space. Many of these glasses are either taken to the dump or put in recycling banks, but they can have various uses around your home.

    Pudding Vessels

If, for instance, you like to entertain friends and family at your home, it can be a very novel idea to serve puddings in your stemmed glass wear. These will not only look the part but will also be a great conversation piece.

    Storm Lanterns

Alternatively, use tumblers or larger stemmed glass wear as storm lanterns. Of course, you are going to want to use flameless candles rather than those with a real flame. These can be dotted around your home, as a centerpiece for your dining table, or around your outdoor entertaining area when you have guests.

    Vases

Lager glasses, such as liter glasses or even jelly jars, can be used as makeshift vases around your home. This can provide a relaxed atmosphere and can add to a ‘country’ or ‘French’ design within your home, especially if you add a touch of ribbon around the top

    Clothes

There are so many things that you can do with unwanted clothes. It is not uncommon for them to be turned into bespoke cushions for either the living areas of a home or as added as throw cushions across a bed. However, it doesn’t stop here. You can also have blankets made from clothes. These can be handy for the cooler evenings out on your veranda or in your backyard. Or, for that matter, dressing up parts of your home, like your couch or bedrooms.

    Socks

Everyone has old socks that they don’t want. Most are due to them being separated from their partners at some strange, either having been lost in the wash or thrown away because of being worn into holes. However, there is no reason to throw away a perfectly good sock just because it no longer has a partner. There are other things that a lonesome sock can become.

For instance, it can become a particularly good purse or pouch for keeping your money in, or for that matter protecting your cell phone. If you find that you have a pair of socks that are no longer required then they can easily be turned into a pair of fingerless gloves or ankle warmers. Although, for all of these ideas, you will have to do a little bit of needlework.
