Bandung was initially established as early as 1641 by Sultan Agung of Mataram. The location of Bandung in nowadays was further to the South. The town in its immediate area was established by the Dutch in 1811. Due to the potential of the cold, fertile plateau which encircles Bandung, the Dutch were intrigued in the region for its agricultural purposes.
