5 Common Mistakes with Live Streaming and How to Avoid Them

Live video is expected to take up 17% of all internet traffic within the next 2 years. It’s popular thanks to the engagement it creates for viewers.

Anyone can create a live video, but it requires careful planning. Read on to learn how to avoid 5 common mistakes with live streaming.

    1. Poor Setups

Create a live streaming setup where the proper lighting and audio equipment are always in reach.

If you’re using a stationary camera, find the right place for it and place it on a tripod. If you’re going for a more mobile event, find a portable camera that still gives quality video.

    2. Not Testing Everything

The most important thing to check before streaming events live is the strength of your internet connection. It should be fast enough that you can start within 2 seconds of your announced time. In not, you’ll lose 6% of your viewers for each additional second they wait.

Perform a test stream, especially if the event occurs in several locations. Check that there are no issues with your camera, lighting, or sound.

    2. Not Engaging With Your Audience

The main purpose of watching events online is to engage with others.

If you don’t provide this experience to your viewers, they’ll leave for a different live stream that does. Make sure to allow for comments and answer them after reading them out loud.

    3. Poor Quality Video and Audio

67% of viewers say that video quality is the most important factor in a live stream. This means poor video quality is the most important mistake to avoid. Use high-quality equipment and you won’t have this problem.

Audio is also critical, and you must avoid issues such as:

    • Levels that are too high or low
    • Cutting in or out
    • Buzzes or hums
    • Excessive background noise

Compress your audio and use a mixer for consistent volume and quality.

    4. Not Using Your Live Video As a Marketing Tool

80% of viewers would rather watch a live video than read a blog, and 82% would rather watch than read a social media post. 52% of marketers say live video has a higher ROI than any other marketing content.

If you don’t promote your live events in advance, you’re missing out on a major marketing opportunity. Announce what they’re about and when they start on your social media and website.

Add a call to action at the end to tell viewers what they should do after watching. You could direct them to purchase a product, watch other videos, subscribe to your newsletter, or visit your social media pages or website.

    5. Using the Wrong Platform

Your choices for live streaming platforms include Facebook Live, Twitch, YouTube, and more. The bob.show platform turns watching your favorite TV shows and movies into an event with your family, friends, or fans.

Whichever option you go for, make sure it fits with your brand and the intended purpose of your event. Learn the platform well so you can provide the best possible experience for your viewers.

It’s a Mistake Not to Research More

Streaming a live event is similar to making any other type of video. You need the right setup and equipment to get high-quality video and audio. The benefit of going live is that you can turn the video into a conversation and place it on a variety of platforms for increased engagement.

If you don’t keep your equipment or content in mind, your event could fail. Making mistakes while live streaming is embarrassing, but one of the best ways to prevent it is to research ahead of time. Read the rest of our content for more live streaming tips.
