Starting college can be intimidating and overwhelming, no matter how well you prepare for it. The difference in stress, workload, and responsibility between being a high school student and a college student is significant. Not only that, but you’ll want to enjoy the experience and participate in social events, too. There’s a lot to balance throughout your college experience, and finding ways to de-stress and have a good time when you’re in your dorm room is essential if you want to stay relaxed and sane. If you’ve never lived on your own, you may not have experience finding ways to entertain yourself or spend time alone. If you want to think ahead, keep reading to learn more about three ways you can pass the time in your college dorm room.

    1. Decorate your space.

The first step to getting comfortable in any dorm room is going through the college admissions process. Once you’ve gotten into your dream school with the help of a college admissions expert, you can start imagining how you’ll decorate your dorm room. Most top universities will allow you some freedom when it comes to personalizing your dorm room, though there will likely be some restrictions on what you’re allowed to do. If you really want to splurge, you can find interior design experts with years of experience who can help you design the perfect space for you.

    2. Plan group activities.

It’s important to get to know the people you live with, so consider planning a potluck or a movie night. You’ll be seeing the people who live in your dorm more than most people you go to school with. It’s a good idea to start getting to know them as soon as you move in, and try to make some new friends who also happen to be your neighbors. It’ll be easier to acclimate socially once you know a few people, and it’s always nice to have people to join clubs or go to college events with.

    3. Indulge in some self-care.

School can be incredibly stressful. It’s a good idea to use your personal space to relax and recharge when you have the opportunity to do so. Self-care can mean different things to different people, so focus on the activities that work best for you. Some people prefer to read a good book, while other people just want to be able to take a nap or catch up on their favorite TV shows.

A beauty day is always a good way to treat yourself. You can find all kinds of gel nail art designs online and spend an afternoon giving yourself a manicure. Gel nails are also more durable and stay looking good for longer, making them the perfect choice for a college student who wants their nail art to last. Glitter and bright colors are great picks if you want something fun, though a french manicure may be a better choice if you want nails that look professional at work.

While school can be overwhelming, there are things you can do to help yourself stay calm. Finding time to relax and have fun is just as important as ensuring you get all your work done. Whether it’s engaging in some self-care with beauty products or your favorite TV show, planning for some fun with new friends, or making your space feel your own, you’ll feel a lot better when you invest some of your energy into feeling like the best version of yourself. When you have a break, make sure you can come back to your room, relax, and get ready to take on your next adventure. Create an environment in your college dorm that makes you feel happy and productive, so it can be a safe space for you to escape the stress of your new college workload.
