Summer is a special time of year. The longer and brighter days add a bounce to most people’s steps. The last month of summer reminds us of the brevity of the season of sunshine. For many the end of summer is also the start of a new school year, which adds excitement and makes us want to learn more about online school. Before everyone heads back to school and a regular routine, here are a few tips on how to enjoy the fading days of summer.
Get Outdoors
Summer is all about outdoor living. Biking, hiking, swimming, and more are all part of the summer fun. Near many of us are farms where you can pick your own fruits or flowers. Some of us live near meadows where we are lucky enough to find wildflowers. Take a stroll with a summery wicker basket and cut an assortment of flowers for a lovely bouquet.
After your stroll, you will need to relax. There is nothing that says summer more than afternoon naps. To make it a special time of leisure, set up a hammock. Getting into one can be a bit of a challenge, but once you are comfortably ensconced in the hammock, enjoy your respite.
Eat Summery Foods
With the bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables available during the summer, it is hard to pick a favorite. Hot sunny days call for watermelon. Refreshing and light, watermelon tastes sweetest while soaking up the sun at your favorite beach or pool.
Barbeques in the summer are a perfect way to enjoy the company of family and friends. With melted butter, fresh corn from a local farm is one of the best ways to enjoy the last month of summer. Put the corn with butter still in their husks on the grill, and you will literally taste summer.
Go to a Country Fair
Country fairs combine being outdoors, summer food, and fun. The allure of cotton candy, carnival games, music, and rides make country fairs irresistible. Country fairs create a wonderful community feeling. Often country fairs are run by volunteer organizations. And the exhibits at the fairs are ways for some of your neighbors to display the bounties of their gardens and other talents.
Attending a country fair before the end of summer is a great way to see different events. There might be tractor pulls, races, herding trials, livestock competitions and more. Look for a country fair in your area. Checkout the schedule and attend a log swing competition while you enjoy freshly squeezed lemonade.
Try Something New
Summer is the perfect time to try something new and to learn more about online school. Before you or your family heads back to a physical or online classroom, go on an adventure. With all the fabulous summer food, pack a picnic basket and head to a park you have not been to before.
Picnic in the evening with a basket full of summer’s bounty and watch a sunset. If you are an early riser, head out to watch the sunrise. Then you have the whole day to explore.
