Why does temperature matter so much when you’re trying to sleep? Well, there’s a complex relationship between temperature and sleep regulation. If your body temperature isn’t able to sufficiently cool at night, it can disrupt your sleep. Light sleep isn’t better than deep sleep. Indeed, the summer is great for outdoor fun and catching up with friends, but at night, you’ll find it impossible to get some much-needed shut-eye. You have an ideal temperature, but the weather doesn’t cooperate, and you can’t leave your AC on during the night. So, what are you going to do?

There are things you can do to beat the heat. Please continue reading to find out how to sleep comfortably on a hot night.

    Drink More Water

Research has demonstrated that dehydration can cause people to feel hot (or cold) during sleep; simultaneously, too much fluid intake can lead to excessive urination, which can cause sleep perturbations. Drink enough water daily to get your body hydrated, regulate body temperature, and replace the fluids you lose during sweating. The last thing you want is to wake up thirsty, so drink about two and a half litres of water. Water doesn’t contain caffeine, sugar, or other additives, meaning it’s the best form of hydration. Decaffeinated tea can be counted as a cup toward your hydration goal, but water still wins.

A water bottle can serve as a visual reminder to keep hydrated, so invest in a fancy water bottle. Choose a material that doesn’t have Bisphenol-A (BPA), which is usually present in low-quality plastic bottles. Aluminum is sturdy and light, but it can leave your water tasting like metal. It’s necessary to stay hydrated in all situations, but that doesn’t mean you must use a water bottle for everything. For example, you can take a water bottle with you when you go to the gym or hiking outdoors. Nevertheless, if you’re going camping in a remote area, you need a pack instead of a bottle.

    Invite The Breeze In

Cranking up the AC to maximum affects your electricity bill, not to mention the environment. You could get a fan, as it’s cheaper to run and draws heat out of the room. You can catch some Zs but don’t place the fan over your face and keep it clean so the air inside your bedroom is free of dust particles. Opening the windows gives your bedroom a chance to breathe out the air and take in new air. Your home gets hot during the summer, so you’ll love having a cool breeze come in and snuggle up under the blanket. Of course, it only works if the air from outside is cooler than the air inside.

    Put The Blankets Away

Blankets are used for warmth, and they’re seldom used for decoration. A blanket creates a microclimate that keeps you warm, so you’ll be cozy no matter the temperature in the room. Even in the summer, a blanket can help soothe you to sleep. Still, you can sweat under the blanket if it’s too warm, so it might be a good idea to store it away. Waking up because of sweating is one of the most annoying things in the world. Select a blanket that’s lightweight and doesn’t press your body down, made from natural fibers like bamboo cotton that offer better breathability. It will work for you for many years to come.

    Invest In the Right Pyjamas

If you want to sleep more soundly every night, help the body release excess heat and moisture. Breathable pyjamas can make all the difference, keeping your slumbering without disruption, whether you’re in the midst of a muggy summer or are simply a naturally hot sleeper. A quality pair of PJs is crucial in initiating and staying asleep. When selecting pyjamas, pay attention to the fabric; even if you love the slippery effect of satin, don’t wear it. Bamboo cotton helps regulate body temperature, keeping you cool all night long, so you can get the rest you deserve.

Bamboo cotton doesn’t require special processing, which means it’s an affordable option to support the local economy by buying locally-sourced products. Sustainable brands use eco-friendly materials for pyjamas Canada and collaborate with fair-trade certified manufacturers. Bamboo pyjamas feel so soft on the skin, and they’re completely biodegradable; you can find different styles to suit your eco-conscious needs. Opt for sleepwear items that are 95% bamboo and 5% elastane to ensure you’re getting quality fabric and can take advantage of all the qualities of bamboo. The good news is there are numerous bamboo pyjama options for men and women that can lead to better sleep.

    Chill Your Socks

Wearing socks to bed can help improve sleep onset latency and snooze better during the night, so it can become an important part of your hygiene routine. The heat can be stifling – if you want to get through the night comfortably, use a small fan. Not only does it encourage the evaporation of sweat, but it also helps regulate the overall body temperature by dissipating heat. If you don’t have a fan, fill your hot water bottle with ice cold water; the socks will absorb the “cold”, cooling your feet. Equally, you can put your socks in the fridge before bed. After they’ve been chilled, the socks will cool your entire body.

    Final Thoughts

When it’s sizzling hot outside, it’s difficult, if not impossible, to fall asleep. Drink plenty of water during the day so that you’re cooler going to sleep, wear breathable bamboo pyjamas to help wick moisture away from your skin, open the windows to invite the heavenly breeze in, put the blankets away, and chill your socks in the fridge. A drop in core temperature is one of the most important changes your body undergoes to prepare you for sleep. You’ll stand a better chance of getting a good night’s rest if you prepare for it, but try to relax and keep in mind that you’ll be slumbering comfortably in no time.
