Bloom Where You’re Planted

by DeeAnne on 15/07/2010

I spotted a little hand painted sign in a boutique over 20 years ago, when I was far away from where I wanted to be living. It simply read “Bloom Where You’re Planted”. I took it to mean to be happy no matter where you physically lived.

Over the years I’ve come to understand that it does mean where you live, but it also means how you live, and what you’re doing. The flower doesn’t ask for perfection before it blooms. It does whatever it can to bring its beauty to the world.

This moment will never come again. Enjoy where you are, what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Drink it in and devour it.

This is most certainly something to take in and really think about. It’s funny how everyone interprets things differently. The first time I ever saw this quote – I thought it meant making the most of where you were raised (at this point of my life I was a teenager, and I refused to accept this adage). But as I’ve grown, I’ve come to see and understand this quote similar to your description – making the most with wherever you might be. This is much more suitable to my taste, as I don’t want to live where I was raised – it’s lovely to visit, but I’m always yearning to return to my home. Lovely post.

Thank you Shannon. I’m so glad you enjoyed the post, and it sounds like you’ve followed your heart in finding your home, too!

Very best,

What a beautiful post. I’ve heard this saying many times, but had never thought about it meaning anything besides physical location. Thank you so much for giving it a deeper meaning for me. And I must say DeeAnne, your statement of: “The flower doesn’t ask for perfection before it blooms. It does whatever it can to bring its beauty to the world,” is a beautiful quote in itself. ;) Have a fantastic weekend!
