3 Signs You May Be Charmed

by DeeAnne on 11/11/2009

3935040239_5970aeceffCharmed means many things to many different people. Some have the definition as a passive act, such as a higher power watching over you. Others believe it’s a way of living with intention, being actively aware and involved in finding your own happiness. No matter how you define charmed, here are three things I’ve seen in many people that I consider to be charmed:

1. You look for pleasure in little things~ Whether it’s a hug from your child (or greeting from your puppy) when you arrive home from work, a glass of wine with friends, watching your favourite sport at the pub with friends, a toile de jouy for the back of your Ikea closet, or sitting quietly in the same room with your partner while you each read; you’re able to enjoy the moment, simple or spectacular.

2. You choose to see the positive, or the lesson~ You know that there is good in everything, and  that each experience is taking you to the place you belong. Sometimes you don’t get exactly what you want, but did you learn something new about what you don’t want in your charmed life?

3. You choose to see the best in others~ You don’t take things personally, because you understand that everyone is at the center of their own story. A perceived slight is almost always just that person working towards their own happy ending. They may not have considered your feelings, but their intent wasn’t to harm you. You may even ask yourself, “Is there a way I can change my perspective to see their action in a positive, or at least neutral, light?”

What’s a sign you’ve seen in those you consider to be living a charmed life? I look forward to learning from your comments!

They are always willing to help someone when needed.

I have a cousin in Hungary that will do anything for anyone. He never gets angry or upset. He is just a genuinely great person.

That’s a great one John! I’ve heard people say that the more they give, the more they have to give. Your cousin sounds lovely!

Thank you for the comment!

I love people who are they way you just described. They are the easiest to get along with. And I appreciate you mentioning a greeting from your puppy being a little thing to enjoy, it’s one of my favorite parts of my day, that’s for sure. Nice post!

Thank you for the comment Nate! (and I love the doggie greeting, especially when you’ve just gone to get the mail!)
Best,

Hi DeeAnne,

Love your Blog title! You just validated who I am! Sometimes I get accused, by those who are more negative or cynical, that I live life through rosy colored glasses but I choose to look for the best – to find delight in simple pleasures. I also seem to smile alot and laugh everyday, sometimes at myself. People tell me that my smile lights up a room and they smile back. It’s not always easy and I have my off days but I guess I really do lead a “charmed life”.

Will definitely continue to follow your blog & twitter!

Hello Darlene!
Thank you for your kind words about my blog, and what you describe is exactly why I started the site! I had many of the same experiences, and felt it was time to say that I’m finally alright being too nice, too happy and too optimistic. I’m not trying to change anyone else, but am so thrilled that others feel they’ve found a home here!
My very best (from behind rose-coloured glasses!),
DeeAnne

Hi Dee! You were always the cheeriest person at work. Glad to hear you are doing so well and love the website. Thomas told me about it as we were living the charmed life in the thick of beltway traffic–wink! Keep up the adventure and don’t miss any chances to pour Dom on tired toes. All the best, Heather
